Additional information to aid with dating later bottles:
ReplyDelete"Period after Opening" ( POA ) labeling was introduced in 2005. This is the open jar symbol with a no. of months inside indicating the "Minimum Durability" if the contents after opening.
As it is mandatory only if the period is 36 months or less ( all fragrance is safe beyond that due to the alcohol content ) it may not be on all bottles ( in practice many big manufacturers are adopting it )
HOWEVER if it is present then the bottle MUST date from 2005 or later.
Thus it can be used in this way as an additional check.
EG if the Batch Code could be 1996 or 2006 but the POA is present then it must be 2006..
